From Every Day to Slay: A 50th Birthday Celebration in Tuscany
This past week, I had the incredible honor of being part of a special 50th birthday celebration in the breathtaking hills of Tuscany. The birthday girl, a dear friend from the US, invited seven of her closest friends to join her for a magical getaway filled with laughter, great food, and a touch of glam. And what better way to capture such a momentous occasion than with a photoshoot that celebrated each woman's individuality and strength?
The villa we stayed in was the perfect backdrop—rolling hills, rustic charm, and that unmistakable Tuscan light. I wanted to make sure these women felt not only beautiful but empowered. So, I called on my dear friend Sylwia, a hair and makeup artist based in London, to join the fun. We hadn’t seen each other in 20 years, and this was the perfect reunion!
Sylwia worked her magic, transforming each woman from "every day to slay," and it was amazing to see how confident they felt as they stepped into their moment. From the individual portraits to the group photos, the energy was electric. The ladies showed up in outfits that they’d carefully chosen with a little guidance from me ahead of time, and we spent the day celebrating friendship, milestones, and, most importantly, the power of women over 40.
GETTING READY
Seeing the before and after transformations, and the joy on each of these women’s faces, was a reminder of why I do what I do. I guide my clients through every part of the process—posing, wardrobe, and helping them find their own unique spark. And these ladies? They absolutely slayed.
As a photographer who specializes in capturing the essence of mature women, I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to watch my clients rediscover themselves in front of the camera. It’s not just about the photographs—it’s about the journey of feeling seen, celebrated, and fierce at any age.
This experience was so much more than just a photoshoot. It was a reminder that life, at any stage, is worth celebrating. Whether it's the wisdom that comes with age, the bond of lifelong friendships, or the joy of taking a moment for yourself, there's something incredibly powerful about honoring where you are right now.
