Your headshot is often the first impression someone has of you — whether it’s on LinkedIn, your website, or in your workplace. That’s why what you wear matters just as much as how you pose or smile. The goal is simple: represent yourself in a way that feels authentic and reflects how your clients, colleagues, or community will see you in real life.
Dress for How You Want to Be Seen.
-
Lawyers & Corporate Professionals: A tailored suit, blazer, or crisp shirt communicates authority and professionalism. Stick with solid colors or subtle textures.
-
Doctors & Healthcare Professionals: A white coat layered over a solid-colored shirt or blouse looks both approachable and credible. Consider bringing a stethoscope or other professional tools if that feels authentic.
-
Teachers & Educators: Choose something professional yet warm—think blazers, cardigans, or dresses with clean lines. You want parents and students to see you as approachable, yet polished.
-
Tech Professionals & Start-Up Teams: You may prefer business-casual looks—solid button-downs, blazers with jeans, or a simple blouse. Keep it modern and true to your workplace style.
-
Working with Children: If your role involves kids, like childcare specialists or pediatric professionals, go with soft colors, approachable layers, and simple accessories that feel friendly.
While authenticity is key, remember that the camera sees things differently than the mirror. Here are a few tips:
-
Avoid busy patterns. Bold stripes, tiny checks, or loud prints can distract from your face.
-
Embrace solid colors and textures. Rich fabrics, subtle knits, or layers add visual interest without overwhelming your portrait.
-
Add a pop of color. A tie, scarf, blazer, or piece of jewelry in a bold shade brings life to your photo while keeping the focus on you.
-
Earth tones with accents work well. For men, this could mean a neutral shirt with a colorful tie; for women, a blazer layered over a solid blouse paired with a bright accessory.
